The Basics
Fire is finally replacing all the sloshing-around in water we’ve been doing the last few weeks, most notably with Mercury in Sagittarius (its detriment, if you recall Amanda Seyfried) going retrograde. This tricky transit has toned the entire week, slowing our communication and (attempts to) travel with wobbles and roadblocks. The big question is, what’s the truth?
Jupiter in Gemini (also retrograding, ha) is still opposing Mercury in Sag, but in mutual reception, the two planets enjoy more rapport than tension. Why is this relevant, you ask? Together, they instigate one-on-one relationship conversations that will review old, karmic history, creating an opportunity to see beyond our solipsistic realities. That won’t be wrapped up until both Mercury retrograde ends on December 15 and Jupiter’s retrograde ends on February 4, 2025. Buckle up.
Ellias Lonsdale’s Inside Degree for 23° of Sagittarius, where this retrograde is occurring, is “a woman wearing many tiny bells.” She exposes herself to new possibilities, tunes in to her body’s wisdom, and develops her techniques on a cellular level. “You seek the full-on motivating spark of knowing what it feels like to be tuned out and discovering what it really means to be tuned in,” Lonsdale writes. This captures the desire for granular detail — rather than sweeping, simplified generalizations — that this joint retrograde is ushering in.
Lastly, a waning Scorpio moon can send us inward (as many of us struggle with the social demands of family, no less). Did things get extra weird during Thanksgiving dinner last night? Blame Scorpio for any morbid, esoteric, occult, or even oddly sexual conversation. But it’s followed by a new moon in Sag, a light in the dark — dampened by Saturn and Neptune. They remind us that life is, in many ways, beyond our comprehension. Bad news for Sag, which needs certainty in the form of a story to motivate their singular journey forward.
Weekly Highlights & Sign Specifics
On Tuesday, Mercury in Sagittarius stationed retrograde. Our opinions, chats, and personal mythology need to slow waaaayy down for review. Sag brings a global overtone to this reality check; consider reevaluating your world philosophies. Neptune and Saturn in Pisces double check this yappy Sag transit, which can lack nuance.
Sagittarius (suns, risings, and moons): this one’s for you, baby. It won’t be easy, especially if you have sensitive planets or points at 23°degrees — expect a medicinal reckoning on steroids.
Virgo, Pisces, and Gemini fave big family and career questions under this transit.
On Wednesday, Mars in Leo trined the Sun in Sagittarius, putting our libido, drive, and sense of action in positive flow to newfound adventures. But it’s slow as Mars prepares to retrograde himself.
On Saturday, we’ll get a New Moon in Sag at 9°to kick off December. If you’re feeling low-energy or introspective today, it’s that dark Scorpio moon winding down before this rebirth. In a trine to the North Node in Aries and Mars in Leo, it’s auspicious for creativity; if you need a break from all the relationship shifts, go out and make something.
But daddy Saturn is being a huge downer, squaring the sun and moon. He grounds the cycle’s initial optimism with realizations that, no, Exhibit A wasn’t the truth, and no, you aren’t the sole arbiter of it.
For guidance: the Inside Degree for 10° of Sag, closest to this moon, is “a star turning many different colors” that releases spirits, reinterprets past karma, and takes life “through all its shifts and nuances with easy and spectacular capacity.”
Rex’s Recs:
Do:
Slow down. Expect snafus around texting, emails, planes, trains, and automobiles — yes, I see the irony of that being this week. I don’t make the rules.
Watch your temper. Mars in Leo and the Sun and Mercury in Sag light up the sky, making us quick to anger and pride on an individual and collective level.
Consider your inner child. Try a new hobby or skill that makes the joy pour out of you. Transmute tough emotions through art, ingest beauty, get inspired.
Dive into your emotional motivations with a therapist or healer, especially today, before the uplift of the new moon.
Investigate your mythos. Write down your life story, but read it from the perspective of an outsider. Is how you’re framing that thing serving you? Does it empower you?
Don’t:
Fall into the shadow of dogma that closes Sag’s ever-expanding desire for freedom of the mind.
Jump to conclusions. Sit in the messy liminal space of Pisces and let gratitude be the medicine for feeling slow. Channel your desire to move by being of service to your community and showing up with a listening mind.
Journaling Prompts:
Can — and should — you change how you speak to your inner child?
What storylines that you tell yourself need to change before 2025 and 2026?
Are you hurting yourself in your personal mythology? Does it need more bravery, more radical joy?
How can you reorient your mind towards abundance (like Jupiter in Gemini wants us to)?
